Adam R. Smithey, PhD, LMFT is a marriage and family therapist specializing in relationship counseling and intensive counseling retreats while generally focusing on individual, couples and family therapy. Dr. Adam maintains an evening and weekend-based private practice in central Indiana and spends his weekdays as a stay-at-home dad to his children (ages 8, 5, & 4). Since 2012, Dr. Adam has led his own daily counseling practice that included Intensives as a compliment to his services. Now, Intensives are all Dr. Adam does!

Dr. Adam has been providing solution-focused and client-centered services to adolescents, adults, couples and families in one capacity or another since 2004. His counseling specialties include strength-based counseling, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, relationship counseling, and advanced studies and research in infidelity and relationship betrayals. He approaches all types of counseling with a nonjudgmental, curious and caring demeanor that aims to connect with and to empower everyone in the room.
Dr. Adam is an interactive, solution-focused therapist. His therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. He integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, he works with each couple to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
SCS is excited to announce that Dr. Adam is Indiana's first Certified Gottman Therapist and Indiana's first Certified Discernment Counselor in Indiana.

Dr. Adam earned a bachelor degree in Psychology in 2008 from Trine University, a master degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2011 from Capella University, and his PhD in Counseling, Education and Supervision through Capella University in 2015.
